Delta Police Foil Kidnap, Armed Robbery, Cult Activities in Coordinated Operations

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Delta State Police Command has successfully disrupted multiple criminal activities across the state, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related crimes, in a series of coordinated operations. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their bravery and expressed appreciation to community stakeholders for their cooperation in providing actionable intelligence.

On 1st December 2025, at about 2:30 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), working with community volunteers, were conducting intensive patrols in the Obiaruku forest. Acting on credible intelligence that suspected kidnappers were mobilizing to carry out an attack, the team moved swiftly to intercept them.

The suspects opened fire from multiple directions, prompting the operatives to respond with superior firepower. The encounter resulted in the death of one suspected kidnapper, while others fled into the forest with injuries. Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, forty-two rounds of live ammunition, nine mobile phones, and some charms.

Arrest of Armed Robbers and Cultists in Ughelli, Oghara, and Sapele

Between 28th and 29th November 2025, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, achieved significant breakthroughs targeting armed robbery and cult syndicates across Ughelli, Oghara, and Sapele.

In a key operation around the Ekuigbo axis, Kelvin Oke, 42, was apprehended with a stolen tricycle in his possession. Subsequent coordinated operations led to the arrest of two other suspects: Victor Oyaye, 26, identified as a gang leader, and Monday Emakpo, 31, both linked to cult and armed robbery activities. Another stolen tricycle and a locally made shotgun loaded with six live cartridges were recovered during these arrests.

Arrest in Oghara, Firearms Recovered

On 29th November at around 9:15 p.m., CP-SAT operatives raided the residence of Jeffery Saint, 28, of Ogharake, Oghara. The suspect attempted to evade arrest but was quickly restrained. A meticulous search of his premises led to the discovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and fifteen rounds of live ammunition, which were concealed and ready for criminal use.

Eagle Net Special Squad Arrest Along Asaba–Benin Expressway Also on 29th November 2025, the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Inusa, conducted a routine stop-and-search operation near the Northwest Filling Station at Mariam Babangida Junction. A traffic check escalated when a suspect, Ezekiel Edeya, 28, of Emevo, Isoko North LGA, attempted to flee.

The officers quickly apprehended him, and a search of a red handbag he tried to discard revealed one locally fabricated pistol, three live cartridges, an iron plier, and a screwdriver. The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

CP Olufemi Abaniwonda highlighted that these successes were possible due to the collaboration between the police and community members, stressing the importance of timely reporting of suspicious activities to law enforcement.

The CP further reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Delta State and urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information.

Ongoing Investigations and Security Measures All suspects arrested are under thorough investigation, and the police are working tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state. Security operatives remain on high alert to prevent any resurgence of kidnappings, armed robbery, or cult activities.

The Delta State Police Command assured the public that it will continue proactive and intelligence-driven operations to safeguard lives and property, while commending the courage and professionalism of its officers.

Police Praise for Operatives’ Gallantry

CP Abaniwonda personally commended the operatives involved in these operations for their gallantry, bravery, and quick response, which prevented what could have been significant criminal incidents.

The Commissioner appealed to stakeholders and the public to maintain trust in the police and continue providing credible intelligence, emphasizing that collaborative efforts are key to ensuring lasting peace and security in Delta State.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its readiness to confront crime decisively, vowing to sustain pressure on criminal elements while fostering community partnerships for a safer environment for all residents.
