Delta Police Launch Manhunt for Wong Box Over Assault, Threat to Life

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Delta State Police Command has declared a manhunt for Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, a self-acclaimed human rights activist, who is wanted for alleged assault, threat to life, and threatening violence.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the suspect was arrested on August 14, 2025, for offences contrary to Sections 355, 86, and 249 of the Criminal Code.

He was granted bail the same day but has since absconded, refusing to report for further investigation.

The police disclosed that the case dates back to May 29, 2025, when staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) disconnected power supply to Ojei’s residence on Anyameluhor Street, Asaba, over an outstanding bill of ₦4,870,780.

The suspect, upon sighting the BEDC officials, allegedly attacked them with a cutlass, threatening to harm them if the electricity was not restored.

“Out of fear of being murdered, the technician reconnected the light. The suspect continued to threaten them, charging at a pregnant staff with the cutlass,” the statement noted.

The command further revealed that the pregnant staff was hospitalized for more than two weeks after the incident. Video evidence reportedly captured the suspect issuing death threats, brandishing a cutlass, and identifying himself as “Wong Box of Delta State,” while boasting of political connections.

The statement stressed that under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, no individual is above the law.

“The command will ensure that the suspect, Victor Ojei a.k.a. Wong Box, is rearrested and brought to justice,” SP Bright declared.
