The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in the fight against kidnapping, violent crimes, illegal arms trafficking and drug-related offences across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Asaba, where he highlighted key achievements of the command since assuming office as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in the state.

According to the CP, operatives of the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, arrested a suspected notorious inter-state kidnapper linked to criminal activities in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

He said the suspect, Abubakar Mohammed, was arrested on December 29, 2025, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following sustained intelligence-driven operations.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly led operatives to a bush along Tobia Village, Amasoma area of Airport Road in Bayelsa State, where arms were recovered.

Items recovered from the location included one AK-47 rifle, 76 rounds of live ammunition and two AK-47 magazines, all buried and concealed in a sack.

Further investigation led operatives on January 2, 2026, to another arms dump at Uyamuge Forest along the Ughelli–Warri axis, where a K-2 rifle, a pump-action gun, 49 rounds of live ammunition, three K-2 magazines and 32 live cartridges were recovered.

In another operation on January 6, 2026, CP-SAT operatives stormed Ohoror community along the Ughelli–Patani Road following intelligence on suspected kidnappers.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police, leading to a gun battle during which one suspect sustained fatal injuries. A K-2 rifle, two locally made guns and ammunition were recovered, while a manhunt has been launched for fleeing suspects.

The CP also revealed that three suspected gunrunners and armed robbers were arrested on January 3, 2026, during a sting operation at Ovieta Street, Ughelli. The suspects—Areuro Oke (38), Onos Echabor (47) and Akpofure Emmanuel (45)—were apprehended with one pump-action gun and ₦280,000 cash, said to be part payment for an illegal arms deal.

Similarly, operatives of the Quick Response Squad arrested suspected drug dealers during raids conducted on January 3 and 5, 2026, at New Road by Ewereto Junction in Sapele and Agofure Park, Effurun Roundabout, Warri. Among those arrested were Bemigho Omoghomi (28) and Onoriode Samuel (46), alongside two others, with large quantities of illicit drugs recovered.

In a related development, operatives of the Effurun Area Command raided the shop of a suspected drug dealer, Chioma Ada Ifuwe Wanogho, along the Sapele–Warri Road, recovering 45 wraps of substances suspected to be Loud, SK and a bag of dried weeds believed to be Indian hemp.

CP Aina reassured residents of the state of the command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminality, warning that all forms of crime would be met with decisive and lawful action.

He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, while advising parents and guardians to closely monitor and guide their wards away from crime.
