The Delta State Police Command has engaged corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in an interactive lecture on cybercrime, law enforcement, and citizens’ rights and responsibilities.
The session, held on October 1, 2025, was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to resuscitate lecture engagements with corps members across the country in order to prepare them for life after service.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, delegated the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, to deliver the lecture.
SP Bright spoke extensively on topics including cybercrime, law enforcement, police accountability, community policing, and the constitutional responsibilities of citizens.
The corps members were reminded to remain good ambassadors of the country, stay away from crime, shun violence, and uphold honesty and kindness in their dealings.
He stressed the importance of understanding their fundamental rights, as well as respecting the rights of others, while urging them to safeguard their freedoms by avoiding any actions that could jeopardize them.
Referencing Section 24 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Bright highlighted some key duties of citizens, including respect for the constitution and national institutions, patriotism, promoting national interest, and assisting law enforcement in maintaining peace and order within communities.
On police accountability, SP Bright disclosed available complaint channels, including designated phone numbers, through which corps members and the public can report misconduct by officers.
The session was highly interactive as corps members raised questions and shared observations, which were addressed to their satisfaction.
The Delta Police Command assured that it will continue to strengthen engagements with young Nigerians as part of efforts to promote security awareness, build trust, and foster stronger collaboration between the police and the public.
