Delta Showcases Heritage, Tourism Potential at Rhythm of Delta Festival

By

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to cultural preservation and tourism development with the successful hosting of the second edition of its flagship cultural fiesta, “Rhythm of Delta”.

The grand finale, held Wednesday at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba, drew large crowds who witnessed a colorful display of traditional dances, dramatic performances, and artistic exhibitions.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Darlington Ijeh, said the festival conceptualized in 2024 and approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was designed to reconnect Deltans with their heritage.

“This year, we deliberately took sensitization tours across the three senatorial districts and brought the street parade from Summit Junction and Nnebisi Road to the leisure park. It was a way to remind people, especially the youth, that culture lives on the street as much as on stage,” he explained.

One of the highlights was the stage play “The Plague”, which carried a strong social message against cybercrime, urging young people to embrace integrity and pride in cultural values.

The festival also featured exhibitions by the Society of Nigerian Artists, the Delta State Vocational Centre, and various student groups, showcasing the creativity and skills of the people.

Dr. Ijeh praised Governor Oborevwori for his sustained support, describing it as the engine behind the festival’s growth.

“Without the Governor’s encouragement, Rhythm of Delta would not have come this far. We are confident that future editions will be even bigger and will strengthen Delta’s position as a hub for cultural tourism in Nigeria,” he said.

With two editions now successfully hosted, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism says the festival is poised to become an annual reference point for cultural expression and tourism investment in Delta State.

“We wish to do MORE by next year,” Ijeh added. “The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.”
