Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, today said the state will present a budget of over ₦1 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to consolidate ongoing socio-economic and infrastructural development.

Speaking at a citizens’ engagement on the budget preparation held Thursday at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, the governor represented by Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen disclosed that 67 percent of the proposal will go to capital expenditure, while 33 percent will be for recurrent spending.

He explained that the allocation reflects his administration’s focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture, while sustaining salaries and running costs of government.

“Our emphasis on capital projects underscores this government’s commitment to growth, development, transparency, and fiscal discipline,” Oborevwori said.

Ekedayen also disclosed that the state achieved 69 percent implementation of the capital budget and 86 percent of the recurrent budget in 2025, adding that debt has been reduced while internally generated revenue continues to grow without additional taxes.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, in a goodwill message, assured that transparency and accountability will remain central to project delivery.

Representatives of civil society organisations and community leaders commended the participatory process, stressing that citizens’ involvement will ensure the budget reflects the true needs of the people.
