DELTA: Residents of Sapele in Delta State are still reeling from the shock of a gruesome domestic incident that claimed the life of a father after a violent altercation with his wife and daughter.

The man, a commercial tricycle operator, reportedly confronted his daughter, Onyinye, over her second pregnancy outside of marriage. According to community sources, the confrontation quickly turned violent when the girl, believed to be in her late teens or early twenties, physically attacked her father in a rage.

In a disturbing twist, witnesses allege that the girl’s mother joined the scuffle, locking the door to prevent any intervention or escape. The situation escalated until the father collapsed, reportedly striking his head fatally on the floor.

By the time neighbours forced their way into the house on Urhobo Road, it was too late, he was already dead.

“The whole thing was shocking. We heard shouting and tried to intervene, but the door was locked. When we finally got in, we found him on the floor, lifeless,” a neighbour recounted.

Police operatives were said to have arrested both mother and daughter at the scene. However, the Delta State Police Command has distanced itself from confirming the case.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated, “This matter has not been officially reported to us. We will need to verify before making any comments.”

The community has been left dumbfounded by the tragic turn of events in what many described as a once peaceful household.

Local youth leader, Efe Okorodudu, said, “This is a wake-up call. Families must find ways to resolve conflict without violence. What happened here is beyond comprehension.”

The incident highlights rising concerns about family-based violence and the need for conflict resolution education in communities across Nigeria.
