DELTA: A 23-year-old man, identified as Success, has been arrested for allegedly killing his father with a cutlass during a heated argument over N5,000 in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State.
Sources said the tragic incident occurred after the father refused to give his son the money he demanded. The altercation quickly escalated, with Success reportedly striking his father multiple times with a cutlass. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
A neighbor, who requested to remain anonymous, described Success as a known drug addict with a history of erratic behavior. “Success is someone who causes trouble whenever he’s on drugs. He’s well-known for his unpredictable actions,” the neighbor said.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest, saying, “Success is in police custody, and investigations are underway.”
The tragedy has left the Amukpe community in shock, with residents highlighting the need for greater attention to drug abuse and mental health issues.
“This is a stark reminder of the dangers of substance abuse and the urgent need for mental health intervention in our society,” a community leader stated.
The police have urged the public to report similar cases and emphasized the importance of addressing youth drug abuse to prevent such tragedies in the future.
