In a deeply unsettling turn of events, Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, was confirmed dead in the early hours of Easter Monday, sending shockwaves through the state’s political and social circles.
Shimite, a respected figure in the Delta State government, reportedly succumbed to what has been described as a “brief illness.” However, uncertainty shrouds the exact cause of her death, with conflicting narratives beginning to emerge from both official and family sources.
Confirming her demise, the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that Shimite was declared dead at a hospital shortly after being rushed there. In a surprising development, Edafe disclosed that the deceased’s husband — who first alerted authorities — has since been taken into protective custody amid growing tensions and suspicions.
“He was the one who called in to report that his wife had died that morning,” Edafe noted. “He said he was receiving threats from her family, and fearing for his safety, we moved him into protective custody — not under arrest.”
Despite the initial claim of natural causes, the late aide’s family has now formally petitioned the police, raising concerns over potential foul play. Their accusations have escalated public interest in the case, prompting a full investigation by law enforcement authorities.
“The family of the deceased came forward later and filed an official complaint, suspecting that the husband may have played a role in her death,” Edafe explained. “At this stage, we cannot draw conclusions. Only a comprehensive autopsy will reveal whether the death was of natural causes or otherwise.”
The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations unfold.
