Edo Governor Suspends Health Agency Chief Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

In a dramatic shake-up at the helm of Edo State’s healthcare administration, Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered the immediate suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Caulson Osoikhia Oahimire, over grave financial and administrative irregularities.

The announcement, delivered through a statement signed by Umar Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, on Tuesday in Benin City, signals a strong stance by the Okpebholo administration on transparency and accountability in public service.

According to the statement, Dr. Oahimire’s suspension follows serious allegations of financial impropriety and breaches of official conduct. While details of the allegations remain under wraps, the gravity of the charges has prompted the swift formation of a special investigative committee tasked with probing the claims.

In the interim, the governor has directed the most senior official within the agency to assume leadership in an acting capacity, ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the agency continue uninterrupted.

“The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Executive Secretary… over allegations of grave financial and official infractions,” the official communiqué stated. “Consequently, the most senior staff of the agency will act in a functioning capacity pending the outcome of a special committee to be constituted by the government.”

This development marks one of the most high-profile administrative actions since Governor Okpebholo assumed office, signaling his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption and malfeasance in the health sector.

As the state awaits the outcome of the investigation, public interest is high, with many watching closely to see whether this move will set the tone for a broader campaign against corruption within Edo’s public institutions.
