Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have interrogated Delta State’s acting Accountant General, Vincent Okubor, along with his deputy, over allegations of misappropriating N1.3 trillion during the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
This development follows the earlier arrest of Okowa—who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections—along with the immediate past Accountant General, Mrs. Joy Enwa, and several other government officials, in connection with the same allegations.
Sources disclosed that the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office had summoned the officials in March to answer questions regarding the funds under investigation. A senior government official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the invitations were part of efforts to wrap up the agency’s probe into the alleged embezzlement.
According to insiders, the officials were asked to submit statements clarifying their roles, if any, in the disbursement and management of the controversial funds at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt.
When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale neither confirmed nor denied the development, stating, “Let me find out about it. I will get back to you.” As of the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond to further inquiries.
