The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has commenced a nationwide strike, directing its members to withdraw services indefinitely over unresolved labour disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a circular signed by Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, the union accused TCN of neglecting workers’ welfare, failing to provide essential tools, and disregarding staff rights.
The demands include payment of salary arrears since April 2025, an end to casualisation, provision of protective equipment last supplied in 2021, operational vehicles, and full implementation of the National Minimum Wage.
Igwebike said the strike followed the expiration of an ultimatum issued to management. “We cannot continue to fold our arms while we watch our rights violated and the electricity industry collapse,” he declared.
The directive mandates “total compliance” nationwide, sparking fears of widespread power outages.
NUEE had embarked on a similar strike in June 2024, crippling power supply across many states before emergency talks were held with the Federal Government.
