Fatal Truck Crash Not Linked to Dangote —Enugu Police.

Enugu, Nigeria — The Enugu State Police Command has officially clarified that the truck involved in a recent fatal accident on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway was not owned by Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), despite public speculation. The police identified the vehicle’s owner as Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.

The clarification follows two separate crashes on September 3, 2025, which resulted in a total of 10 deaths and 10 injuries.

The first crash, at approximately 9 a.m., involved a cement-laden Howo truck, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet minibus. The police report states that the truck, branded with the name of its owner, Visco Investment Global, collided with the other vehicles. The impact caused the truck and Corolla to catch fire, leading to the deaths of five people in the car and one person in the mini bus.

A second accident occurred later that day, around 3 p.m., when a Sino truck, also carrying cement and belonging to Global Investment, rammed into a tricycle. All four occupants of the tricycle were killed.

CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, described the crashes as “avoidable” and has ordered a comprehensive investigation. He also warned motorists to be extra cautious during the “Ember Months” (September to December), which are known for a higher rate of accidents.

In response to widespread reports linking its brand to the incident, Dangote Industries Limited issued a statement to distance itself from the tragedy. The company confirmed that the truck was not part of its fleet and belonged to Visco Investment Global Limited.

Dangote expressed concern over the “increasing spread of misinformation” and pledged to cooperate with police to determine why its logo was used on the vehicle without authorization. The company also vowed to strengthen measures to prevent the unauthorized use of its brand identity and urged the public and media to avoid circulating unverified information.
