ABUJA—An Abuja-based veterinary doctor and immediate past chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, has been tragically killed by suspected kidnappers who abducted his three children.
The devastating incident occurred on Friday night when gunmen invaded the deceased’s residence in the Kubwa district along the Kubwa-Kaduna road. The assailants reportedly abducted Dr. Ogbu and his three children, but later dumped his body by the roadside.
Dr. Ogbu’s death was confirmed by his colleague, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who shared the tragic news on Facebook.
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja, was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene,” Ikechukwu wrote.
The late Ogbu was a dedicated professional who leaves behind a nursing wife and grieving family. His family is now in acute distress as security agencies and community members continue efforts to locate and rescue his abducted children.
Colleagues have expressed profound shock at the killing, describing it as a devastating loss to both the family and the veterinary profession.
The attack heightens security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and comes barely a week after the killing of Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu during a robbery in the Katampe area of Abuja.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and calls and messages to the FCT Police Command were not immediately answered. Investigations into the crime are reportedly underway.
