Two new books aimed at reshaping professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force were on Saturday unveiled at the Banquet Hall, Wellington Hotel, Effurun, near Warri, Delta State.
The works, co-authored by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anietie Akran Eyoh, Commandant of the Mopol Training College, Osun State, and Dr. Maria Chinecherem Uzonwanne, Associate Professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, focus on operational strategy, tactical leadership and the welfare of police officers.
The books, Police Operational Strategy and Tactical Leadership for Enhanced Professionalism and Economic Impact and Policing and the Perils of Duty: Understanding the Causes of Careless Death Among Police Officers, were reviewed by Professor Uju Ezenekwe of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Professor Mart Olire Edema of Delta State University, Abraka.
Reviewing the first book, Prof. Ezenekwe described it as a compass for 21st Century policing in Nigeria, stressing the importance of leadership under pressure, intelligence-led operations, use of technology, and human-centered policing.
He noted that professional policing fuels national security, which in turn drives economic growth, adding that the book sets a practical framework for officers in both command and field operations.
In his remarks, the chief host and former Warri South Council Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi, hailed the authors for their foresight, saying the publications would serve both the police institution and society.
Tidi added that policing should not be seen as the job of officers alone but a collective responsibility of all citizens.
Co-author, Dr. Uzonwanne, explained that her experience teaching at the Police Training Institute, Osun State, inspired the books. She recalled her first lecture before armed officers, which evolved into engaging classes, stressing that knowledge gained there should be shared more widely.
She further said the collaboration with ACP Eyoh was driven by the need to address operational gaps and welfare concerns, especially the risks that lead to unnecessary deaths among officers in the line of duty.
On his part, the former member representing Sapele, Okpe and Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Efe Afe, commended the authors for their courage and depth, noting that the works would contribute to policy debates on security reforms.
He said Nigeria needed research-based approaches to security management, adding that such books would help reposition the force for better service delivery.
Also speaking, Human Right Activist Comrade Tiga described the initiative as timely, saying the two publications provide practical insights into policing that combine academic depth with field experience.
Comrade Tiga urged institutions of higher learning, security agencies and policymakers to adopt the books as reference materials for training and reform.
Other dignitaries present, including senior police officers, academics and traditional leaders, also applauded the efforts of the authors, stressing that the books would contribute to national dialogue on policing and professionalism.
The event featured goodwill messages, book signing and networking among stakeholders in security, governance and academia.
