The political tension in River State may already be impacting Nigerias’ economy, following reports of explosion on the popular Trans Niger Crude Oil Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana local government area.
The Trans Niger Pipeline is a major federal transport line supplying crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal.
The incident, according to sources, occurred on Monday midnight around the Bodo-Bonny Road under construction in the Gokana council.
It is not clear if the pipeline was attacked by a third party as the cause of the incident remains unknown as of the time of this report.
Recall some militant groups had recently threatened to attack oil facilities in the state over the political logjam in the state and the incident comes barely 24hrs after the state house of assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Gov Sim Fubara.
