DELTA: The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Udu Branch, has apprehended a suspected fake lawyer, Olubuwe Ossai Silas, for allegedly impersonating a legal practitioner in Delta State.
Silas, who falsely claimed to be Simon Sabuke, was caught on Tuesday while affixing a lawyer’s seal to a document and preparing legal papers under false pretenses.
NBA Udu Branch Chairman, Edmund Odohisi, confirmed the arrest, stating, “This incident underscores our zero-tolerance policy towards quacks in the legal profession. The full weight of the law must be applied.”
Odohisi revealed that a formal complaint has been filed at the Ovwian Police Station, where the suspect is being held.
The Divisional Police Officer assured that, “the case will be thoroughly investigated and will serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar activities.”
He also highlighted the NBA’s proactive measures in curbing impersonation, including warnings against unauthorized use of NBA car stickers.
“With this latest development, we remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of the legal profession,” Odohisi said.
The NBA has urged the public to report cases of impersonation to ensure that the legal system is protected from such practices.
