DELTA: As Muslims in Warri, Delta State joined millions worldwide in celebrating Eid, tragedy struck on Ogunu Road, opposite the Federal Government College, as a fire outbreak razed several furniture shops, destroying property worth millions of naira.
In a videos circulating on social media early Sunday showed desperate voices calling on authorities to intervene.
According to the voice, “Please, fire outbreak at Ogunu along Shell Contractors Road by Eagle Roundabout.
“Help us quench the fire,” a distressed resident pleaded in one of the viral clips.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, as no official report had been released at the time of filing this report.
However, eyewitnesses who do not their name print said, “the inferno, which raged for hours, was eventually brought under control.
A resident, who also preferred to remain anonymous, lamented the losses suffered by business owners.
She said, “People have lost everything overnight. The government needs to step in and support those affected,” he said.
Despite public outcry, no government official has made a statement regarding the incident. Residents are urging the Warri South Local Government to assess the damage and provide relief to the victims.
