ILE-IFE, NIGERIA – The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday.

The installation ceremony, held at the Palace Square amid fanfare and heightened security, coincided with the celebrations marking Oba Ogunwusi’s 10th coronation anniversary. The First Lady arrived at the Ooni’s palace around 1 PM and was warmly received by the revered monarch and his council of chiefs.

The title bestowed upon Senator Tinubu, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, carries deep historical and cultural significance within the Yoruba sphere. It was previously held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, the wife of the revered statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo. This honour serves as a recognition of leadership, influence, and significant contributions to society.

The event drew a gathering of traditional rulers and high-profile dignitaries from across Yorubaland and the nation. Notable figures in attendance included the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, alongside other prominent cultural and political leaders.

Senator Tinubu’s latest honour adds to a series of traditional titles she has received across Nigeria this year in recognition of her humanitarian services and commitment to national development.

In August 2025, she was named Iya Oba of Ikorodu by Oba Kabir Shotobi in Lagos State. Earlier in June, the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council conferred upon her the title Ugosimba I of Enugu. Demonstrating her cross-regional appeal, she was also bestowed the title Sarauniyar Yaki (Queen Warrior) in October by the Lamido of Akko in Gombe State, recognizing her efforts to protect vulnerable groups across the country.
