A Kano Magistrate Court has sentenced five individuals to one month in prison or a ₦25,000 fine each for allowing their goats to roam freely and destroy government-maintained ornamental plants along Lodge and Race Course roads.
The defendants, led by Usman Abdullahi, were convicted under Section 7(e) of the Kano State Public Health Law, 2019. The case gained attention after 17 goats were seized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change as part of efforts to protect the state’s urban beautification projects.
Prosecutor Barr. Bahijjah Aliyu stated the goats caused significant damage to greenery aimed at improving air quality and the city’s appearance. The court also ordered the convicts to jointly pay ₦100,000 in compensation.
The Ministry urged residents to manage their animals responsibly and vowed continued enforcement of environmental regulations.
