Floods Destroy Eight Houses in Maiduguri

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday swept away eight buildings in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, displacing several families in Bulumkutu, Abuja, Moduganari, Ngomari and other riverbank communities.

According to reports, the rain, which started around 6am and lasted for more than three hours, left residents in grief and despair.

A victim of the flood said, “I started seeing water coming in after an hour of the rain. I immediately took my children and wife to a safe area.”

The Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed that eight buildings collapsed due to the floods. He said the command had stationed officers at strategic areas to prevent looting and other criminal activities in evacuated homes.
