LAGOS – The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is mourning the loss of four senior staff members who died in a fire that engulfed the Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on Tuesday. The victims were trapped on the sixth and seventh floors, where the FIRS has two offices.
The FIRS identified the deceased as:
- Mrs. Ekelikhostse George, Assistant Director
- Mr. David Sunday-Jatto, Assistant Director
- Mrs. Nkem Onyemelukwe, Senior Manager
- Mr. Peter Ifaranmaye, Manager
In a statement, the FIRS expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and announced it would provide them with support. The agency also stated it is cooperating with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the fire and will review safety measures in all its offices nationwide.
Emergency responders are currently investigating the incident, which eyewitnesses say spread rapidly through the building.
