Warri, Nigeria — A galaxy of Nigerian football greats is set to grace the fourth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, with a novelty match that promises a unique blend of sports, culture, and royal celebration.
Scheduled for August 19, 2025, the high-profile encounter will see ex-internationals such as Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Victor Ikpeba headline the event. Other football icons expected to feature include Emmanuel Amunike, Austin Eguavoen, Taribo West, Mutiu Adepoju, Ifeanyi Udeze, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, Garba Lawal, Yakubu Ayegbeni, and Peterside Idah.
According to the match coordinator, Prince Godstime Emiko, the game will be a thrilling nine-a-side showdown between Chevron All Stars of Warri and Iwere All Stars, turning the palace grounds into what he described as “a temple of football theatre.”
“This is more than just a game,” Emiko added. “It’s a celebration of unity, heritage, and the Olu’s commitment to nurturing football and youth development in Warri.”
The novelty match forms part of a week-long series of activities marking the monarch’s anniversary, reinforcing his role as a unifying figure in sports and community development.
