The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansān Yamma (OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, has charged troops in the North West to intensify their operational push to ensure the total eradication of banditry and terrorism across the region.
General Idris gave the directive during his maiden operational and familiarisation visit to formations under Sector 1 of the operation.
During the briefing, the Commander of Sector 1, Major General Wase, outlined key operational gains recorded so far, including sustained offensives that have weakened the capacity of terrorists and bandits.
He also highlighted challenges confronting troops, as well as ongoing strategies to consolidate security successes.
A statement issued by the Media Information Officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, said the Theatre Commander commended the professionalism, courage, and resilience of personnel under the sector.
“The decline in banditry and terrorist activities is noticeable, and this achievement is attributed to the effective combination of both kinetic measures and strong interagency collaboration employed by the sector,” Gen. Idris stated.
He stressed that the overriding goal of Operation Fansan Yamma is not merely to suppress criminal elements but to completely eliminate banditry and terrorism from the North West.
“I urge you to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the mission while maintaining close collaboration with other security agencies to achieve lasting peace and stability,” he charged the troops.
The Theatre Commander further warned against operational lapses that could expose troops to avoidable casualties or equipment losses.
He assured personnel that efforts were underway to provide additional combat enablers, improved logistics, and other support systems to enhance their operational effectiveness.
