Speaking at the ceremony, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the country’s current challenges.
Abubakar stressed that Nigeria needs unity, firmness of purpose, and divine intervention to overcome the security issues confronting different parts of the country.
The former leader, who also serves as the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, expressed confidence that peace and stability could be restored if both citizens and leaders collaborated effectively.
He further advised the graduating medical professionals to uphold discipline, integrity, ethical standards, and good conduct throughout their careers.
According to Abubakar, the convocation represented a major milestone for both the graduates and the university, reflecting steady growth since the institution’s establishment.
He noted that within eight years, PAMO University of Medical Sciences had become a centre of excellence, citing recent accreditation exercises that granted approval to all its higher courses.
Abubakar added that the National Universities Commission’s approval of postgraduate programmes would enhance specialist training and medical research in Nigeria.
Also addressing the ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Peter Odili, commended the university’s clinical staff and lecturers for choosing to remain in Nigeria despite better opportunities abroad.
Odili said their dedication has contributed significantly to improving medical education and healthcare delivery across the country.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting medical education and training institutions.
The ceremony concluded with the formal graduation of 126 medical personnel, who are expected to serve in various parts of the country, strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.
