Residents of Zogu village in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, have been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of a father and his two sons while they were asleep in their home.
The victims, identified as 56-year-old Weyi Gebeh and his sons Zhu Weyi, 25, and Henry Weyi, 16, were reportedly attacked and killed by unknown assailants in the middle of the night.
The Irigwe Development Association (IDA), through its spokesperson, Sam Jugo, confirmed the incident to reporters in Jos and described the attack as inhumane and deeply alarming.
“This recent event brings to nine the number of people killed in Irigwe land just this week,” Jugo said. “The IDA expresses its utmost displeasure at the deteriorating security situation in our communities. We are calling on security agencies to rise to the occasion and bring an end to these senseless killings.”
He further stated, “The way criminal elements continue to invade our land and kill with impunity points to a motive far beyond the alleged reprisal attacks. We urge the Plateau State government and security authorities to do the needful. Our people deserve to sleep with both eyes closed.”
As at the time of filing this report, efforts to get reactions from the spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, and the state police command’s PRO, DSP Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful, as they were yet to respond to messages sent by our correspondent.
The recent attack adds to growing concerns about recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, especially in communities within Bassa LGA, where locals continue to live in fear.
