Following rampaging ocean surge, residents of Orere community,in Warri South-West Local Government Area in Delta State, have called on indigenes from Orere to return home and help save the community from disappearing totally into the ocean.
Orere, located along the Benin River, shares close proximity with the Atlantic Ocean, with major part of the community already washed away.The community is also neighbor to Ogeheye and Oboghoro communities.
Some of the residents who spoke to PrimeGossip, during the on ongoing 2024 Oboghoro Festival, lamented the the deteriorating situation in the community urging Orere indigenes abroad to emulate their Oboghoro brothers and sisters who are returning to sandfill and build their community.
One Mr Felix who chose to be identified by his first name, said “Last year I went to work for about two weeks, when I returned my mother’s kitchen had disappeared into the ocean,as it stand, if nothing nothing is done we may not have a village in the next 15-years.
Another resident of Orere,who chose anonymity said “the people that are wealthy people from Orere should look at what Oboghoro people are doing, it’s not enough to have money for yourself alone or be gifting people cash, come back home and work with the government to protect the community”.
