Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the ongoing construction of a five-star Hilton Hotel in Asaba as a clear indication of rising investor confidence in the state.
The governor made the remark on Friday during an inspection of the project, where he was received by the hotel’s proprietor, Chief Joseph Ukeji, Chairman of J.I. Ejison Group, and the project’s Technical Manager, Mr. Daniel Marais.
Oborevwori hailed the standard and pace of work, noting that the presence of a global brand like Hilton underscored Delta’s attractiveness to both local and international investors.
“When the owner of this hotel approached me and said he was bringing a five-star hotel to Asaba, I asked what brand. He said Hilton. I said, ‘Ah, Hilton?’ That means something big is coming,” the governor remarked.
He disclosed that his administration had provided access roads to support the project, stressing that government’s infrastructural investments were deliberate efforts to encourage and sustain business ventures.
The governor expressed optimism that the hotel, scheduled for completion in nine months, could be delivered earlier. “From what I have seen today, if they put in more effort, in six or seven months this hotel can be ready. And I will be here to inaugurate it,” he assured.
According to him, peace and security remain key drivers of Delta’s rising investment profile. “If there’s no peace in Delta, there will be no investment. People are moving here from Lagos to invest. Many from across the Niger own property here because Asaba is safe,” he said.
Oborevwori further highlighted other infrastructural projects ongoing across the state, including the Ugbolu/Okpanam Road, the Oko Road, and the Nnebisi–Abraka junction project, noting that additional drainage works were being put in place to ensure durability.
He also mentioned the Uromi Junction flyover in Agbor and the Otovwodo flyover in Ughelli as part of his administration’s development agenda.
“With our Renewed Hope for More Agenda, we are committed to doing much more for Delta State,” the governor added.
Oborevwori was accompanied on the inspection by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who reaffirmed legislative support for the state’s private sector-led growth.
The Hilton Hotel project, once completed, is expected to position Asaba as a strategic hub for tourism, hospitality, and commerce, while further strengthening Delta’s appeal as an investment destination.
