Hotel Commissioning Sparks Urgent Road Repairs in Ubeji

By Peter Onyekachukwu

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday linked new private investments in Warri to renewed government action as he ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the failed section of the Ubeji–Egbokodo–Refinery Road.

The directive came during the commissioning of the multi-million-naira Swiss International Rancho Valerie Hotel in Ubeji, Warri South Local Government Area, where the governor said the rise of fresh investments was reshaping government priorities.

Oborevwori said the new hospitality project signalled growing confidence in Warri’s revival, stressing that such developments were clear indicators that the city was reclaiming its position as Delta’s commercial and tourism hub.

According to him, the government’s prompt response to infrastructure needs around fast-developing communities was part of efforts to sustain investor interest and maintain the state’s improving business climate.

“This hotel is not just a project; it is a statement that Delta State is open for business. It affirms that our state is safe, investor-friendly and ready for world-class ventures,” he said shortly before announcing the road repair directive.

The governor commended the hotel’s owner, Mr. Mode Akoma, for choosing to invest in his home community instead of other parts of the country, describing the decision as an example of patriotism and commitment to Delta’s development.

He told the audience that he would not have honoured an invitation to commission a hotel built outside the state by a Deltan, insisting that homegrown investments were key to the administration’s MORE Agenda.

“Your decision brings jobs, peace and progress to this community,” Oborevwori added, urging other Deltans at home and abroad to emulate Akoma by investing in the state.

The governor noted that the steady rise in private investments was a strong sign of Delta’s stability, saying Warri, in particular, was experiencing a new wave of growth after years of decline.

Earlier, the General Manager of the hotel, Mr. Todowede Opeyemi, said the facility was designed to meet international hospitality standards and provide guests with an unforgettable experience.

He added that the management was committed to helping unlock Delta’s tourism potential while contributing to local economic growth through job creation and community engagement.

The event drew community leaders, business executives and government officials who described the project as a boost to Warri’s expanding hospitality sector.
