The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in connection with the deadly ambush on security operatives in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, even as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun ordered the deployment of more tactical units to restore order in the troubled axis.
The suspects were apprehended by a special police tactical squad deployed to the state following Friday’s coordinated assault at Agu Centre in Mbatula/Mberev Council Ward. Official police figures confirm that three officers were killed, while seven others remain missing.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (Benjamin Hundeyin in original text, but adjust accordingly if needed check consistency) said in a statement on Sunday that those arrested are currently in custody and assisting investigators.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading operations to rescue the missing officers and track down fleeing suspects,” the spokesman stated.
He assured the public that security agencies remain committed to dismantling criminal networks fueling violence in the region, urging residents to remain calm and cooperative.
The IGP, while condemning the killings as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State,” directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to reinforce ongoing operations.
“No stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” Egbetokun vowed.
The attack, which locals say left at least 11 operatives dead, is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Katsina-Ala, a hotspot for armed groups in Benue’s Sankera axis.
