In a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has passed a resounding vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, hailing them for their leadership and commitment to development.

The endorsement came during the APC’s maiden meeting in Isoko South, held at the country home of Senator Joel-Onowakpo in Emede, following the mass defection of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the APC in the area.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Joel-Onowakpo, who represents Delta South Senatorial District, declared unequivocally that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains the leader of the APC in Delta State. He emphasized that the directive was in line with the position of the presidency and the national leadership of the party.

“We are aligning with the leadership of Governor Oborevwori because he has shown capacity, focus, and commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy. The governorship seat is not vacant. We have an administration that is performing and deserves our full support,” Senator Joel-Onowakpo stated.

He dismissed any notion of division between old and new members of the APC, stressing that all members are equal stakeholders. “Let us stop the language of ‘they’ and ‘us’. We are one APC, and unity must be our priority if we are to succeed in 2027,” he added.

The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, also tasked ward chairmen and local party organs to ensure that new members are registered seamlessly, warning against any discriminatory practices that could cause internal crisis.

A highlight of the event was the formal motion for a vote of confidence, moved by Hon. Ferguson Onwo, member representing Isoko South Constituency II, and seconded by Dr. Sylvester Onoyona, the party’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate. The motion was overwhelmingly supported by party faithful with a thunderous voice vote.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Hon. Onwo praised the trio of Tinubu, Oborevwori, and Joel-Onowakpo as “leaders who have distinguished themselves in service and are worthy of our continued support.”

Also present were key political figures including Chief Lucky Esigie, Rt. Hon. Johnson Erijo, Odio Askia Ogieh, Hon. Bino Obowomano, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, and numerous traditional and political stakeholders across the eleven wards of Isoko South.

The gathering marked a new phase in Delta APC’s grassroots mobilization efforts, setting the tone for what party members describe as a united front ahead of the next general elections.
