Itsekiri liberation group condemned in totality the unprovoked attack on Ekurede community and Itsekiri commuters along the NPA expressway in Warri.
Arising from an emergency meeting conveyed today at Warri by the leadership of Itsekiri liberation group in Warri, Warri south local government area of Warri Delta State. The leadership X-rayed the recent development in Warri the Home of the Itsekiri people and we resolve the following:
1. That we are in total support of the actions carried out by the joint military and other law enforcement agencies in clearing Warri south local government of all illegalities in form of handbills and billboards.
2. That Ogbe- Ijaw people have no rights whatsoever to lay claim to any part of Warri south local government area because they are status bond to obey the pronouncement of the courts because they had been barred from laying claim to any part of Warri south local government area.
3. We view the statements from the spokeman of the Ijaw youth council in their press briefing today, on the happening in Warri south as highly provocative and embarrassing. How can supposedly learned people support illegalities, Those Ijaw from Ogbe Ijaw have no any legitimate claim to Warri south? How can a group of leaders of a pressure group be blaming law enforcement agencies for performing their legitimate duties?
4. It was highly provocative for Ijaw people to invade Ekurede Itsekiri and stop Itsekiri commuters along the road due to the activities of government. What is the corollation between government performing their duties and Ijaw invading Itsekiri community?
We therefore demand the following:
i. That the law enforcement agencies should totally raid the streets of Warri south local government area council of all illegal bill boards, handbills and signposts.
ii. That Ogbe-Ijaw king and his people should obey the court pronouncement barring them from laying claim to any part of Warri south. The Ogbe-Ijaw people living in Ogbe-Ijaw should know themselves, because, where they “Ogbe-Ijaw people” are living is Itsekiri land and they are tenants in that land they are currently occupying.
iii. That the Ijaw youth council should henceforth speak within the law, because Itsekiri nation cannot be intimidated. We shall not accept any rascals and careless statements from any group of people who are uncivilized and civilized in their judgement.
We therefore call on the local government chairman, State governor and president to ensure the rule of law is maintained within the three Warri local government area especially in Warri south local government area, protection of all Itsekiri in their aboriginal homes and arrest any person perpetuating illegalities Warri township: especially the Ogbe-Ijaw king who is instigating his people against the landlord of Warri.
