DELTA: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mrs. Joy Enwa, the Accountant General of Delta State, over alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion linked to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The EFCC disclosed that the funds in question reportedly include portions of the 13 percent derivation allocation meant for oil-producing states.
Confirming the arrest, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said, “Mrs. Enwa was detained for questioning as part of investigations into the mismanagement of Delta State funds under the previous administration. Other government officials have also been interrogated.”
In November, Okowa, the former Delta governor and ex-vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was detained at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office. He was accused of diverting state funds for personal gain, including investments in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company and other oil-sector assets.
Mrs. Enwa, who previously served as Deputy Accountant General during Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s tenure, was appointed Accountant General by Okowa in 2020. However, she has faced allegations of financial impropriety before, including a N369 million fraud case in 2015.
When contacted, Mrs. Enwa refused to comment, stating, “I am not the right source to confirm this story. Please reach out to the EFCC for clarification.”
