Kaduna Killings: Fear Grows as Bandits Strike Again, Residents Lament Govt Silence

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Kafanchan

Wake community in Agunu Ward of Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has been thrown into mourning after armed bandits killed seven people, injured 11 others, and kidnapped several residents in yet another violent attack.

The assailants, said to be in large numbers, stormed the village around 5:55am on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among locals who were just beginning their day.

Victims of the attack included Elisha Paul, Japhet Bitrus, Obadiah Joshua, Luka Augustine, Ishaya Paul, Bawa Bulus, and Ezekiel Augustine.

Those injured, among them Gideon Pius, Zachariah Anthony, and Moses Christopher, are being treated at Alheri Clinic in Kachia, while others in critical condition, including Mrs. Janet Godday, were rushed to Kaduna for advanced medical care.

Community members lamented the repeated killings and kidnappings, accusing government and security agencies of failing to protect them.

One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “We are under siege. The bandits move freely, kill our people, and kidnap at will. Government only issues statements but does nothing. We are living in fear every day.”

Despite the rising insecurity, the Kaduna State Police Command has remained silent, as calls to its spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, were not answered.

The latest attack adds to the growing wave of banditry in Kaduna and neighbouring states, raising fresh concerns about the government’s ability to secure rural communities from armed gangs.
