The Kogi State Government says it is stepping up efforts to curb flooding and erosion across the 21 local government areas by deploying modern infrastructure and sustainable solutions.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, disclosed this in Lokoja on Saturday while briefing journalists.
He said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is committed to delivering solution-driven infrastructure that ensures safety, sustainability, and an improved quality of life for residents.
Fanwo pointed to newly constructed drainage systems in Etahi, Omigbo, and Olubojo in Ankpa Local Government as proof of progress, noting that they have been effective in reducing flooding.
“Our drains are working as designed. Rainwater is efficiently collected and channeled away. Within minutes of heavy rainfall, the water is soaked up, leaving communities safe and accessible,” he explained.
He also revealed that the government is leveraging the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to reclaim degraded lands and strengthen flood control measures.
“Kogi ACReSAL, under Barrister Ladi Jatto, has become a game-changing platform for our administration. We are no longer just reacting to ecological disasters; we are proactively deploying infrastructure to prevent them. This is a new dawn in environmental sustainability,” Fanwo stated.
