One year after his passing, the last Will and testament of the late elder statesman and former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has been publicly read to his family. The esteemed businessman and politician, who died on July 25, 2024, at the age of 82, had his Will formally announced on June 16, 2025.
Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN) detailed the provisions of the Will, outlining the distribution of Iwuanyanwu’s extensive estate among his immediate family and selected beneficiaries.
Among the most notable provisions, Iwuanyanwu’s second wife, Frances Chinonyerem Enwerem, whom he married in 2013, has inherited the iconic ‘Legacy House’ on Port Harcourt Road in Owerri. Crucially, the Will expressly forbids her from selling the property.
In addition to the residence, Frances also gains ownership of Magil Furniture, a business previously managed by Iwuanyanwu’s late first wife, Lady Eudora Nnenna Ozinyereaku Iwuanyanwu, who passed away in 2011. She will also receive partial stakes in real estate assets located in Orji, Works Layout, and Naze, all within Imo State. The Will, however, stipulates a significant condition: should Frances choose to remarry, she will automatically forfeit all these inheritances.
Further dispositions include the couple’s youngest son receiving ownership of the family’s Abuja residence. The London property is directed to be sold, with the proceeds distributed as follows: 60% for the education of Iwuanyanwu’s youngest son, 30% to his first son, Jide, and 10% to Ezinne, the current occupant, to assist with her relocation.
In a move towards philanthropy, Iwuanyanwu directed that the ‘Glass House’ near the Owerri flyover be converted into a public trust. An independent board will oversee this property’s use for charitable and community-focused initiatives. Other valuable assets across Abuja, Imo, and various Nigerian locations have been equitably allocated among Iwuanyanwu’s five children.
