Abuja,– Senate President Godswill Akpabio has suffered a legal setback at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which on May 21, 2025, struck out two motions he filed and awarded costs of ₦100,000 against him. The ruling, a certified true copy of which was sighted on Tuesday night, followed Akpabio’s request for withdrawal of the appeal.
Akpabio, listed as the appellant in the motions dated March 3 and March 25, 2025, had sought various reliefs including an enlargement of time, leave to appeal, and a stay of proceedings against a Federal High Court decision delivered on March 10, 2025. The original suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025, involved Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the primary respondent, alongside the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate, and Senator Neda Imasuem.
A three-member panel of the Appeal Court, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, granted the application to withdraw the motions, leading to their being struck out. The order for costs against the Senate President was specifically awarded to the 1st Respondent, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
