A significant wave of public concern and controversy has been triggered across Nigeria’s security and political landscape following reports of a proposed plan to redeploy the highly decorated Special Forces Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ishaya Aliyu Manga, back to the volatile Borno State. The potential move has sparked widespread fear among citizens and commentators regarding its strategic wisdom and the security implications for the celebrated officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Manga is distinguished within the Nigerian Army for his notable effectiveness and proven success in previous counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations across various theaters. However, the prospect of his return to Borno, the primary epicenter of the Boko Haram and ISWAP conflict, has generated intense scrutiny.
