Major Shakeup at NNPCL as Warri Refinery MD and other Top Officials are Sacked

The Managing Director of the Warri Refinery, along with the heads of the Port Harcourt Refining Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, have been relieved of their duties under a sweeping reorganization led by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

In addition to these top refinery executives, several senior officials within the national oil firm were also dismissed. Among them is Bala Wunti, the former Chief of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a key subsidiary of NNPCL.

The overhaul extended to many personnel with less than a year left before retirement, who were also asked to vacate their positions.

While NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye declined to comment, multiple reliable sources within the company confirmed the restructuring. According to a source within the presidency, who requested anonymity, the move was driven by concerns over poor performance and a need for reform.

“The President did this because of their performance, because we needed to do things differently. The former people were taking us in circles, and then some of them became part of the problem,” the source stated.
