Makinde Commissions Fourth Ultra-Modern Bus Terminal at Iwo Road

IBADAN, OYO STATE—The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, today commissioned the final phase of the city’s multi-billion Naira transport overhaul, inaugurating the last of the four modern bus terminals designed to revolutionize Ibadan’s urban and inter-state travel.

The terminal, located at the strategic Iwo Road Bus Interchange, marks the completion of a massive infrastructure project initiated by the administration to modernize the state’s transportation system, boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and enhance tourism.

The newly commissioned facility at Iwo Road, often considered the nerve center of Ibadan’s commerce, is set to be the central hub for major inter-state and intra-city routes.

It features state-of-the-art facilities, including:

  • A world-class terminal building.
  • Dedicated ticketing booths and passenger waiting areas.
  • Restaurants, Cinema, shops, and ATM galleries.
  • Staff offices, control rooms, and ample parking facilities.

The complete bus terminal project, which also included modern facilities at Ojoo, Challenge, and New Ife Road, was awarded in May 2020 at a total cost of ₦16.9 billion.

During the ceremony, Governor Makinde highlighted that the investment in these terminals was a strategic move rooted in data and logic, designed to ensure the state’s financial stability.

“Federal allocations had been dwindling over the years. We needed reliable ways to ensure that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue remained stable and grew enough to support further development,” the Governor stated.

Furthermore, the new terminals are aimed at restoring sanity on Ibadan roads by collapsing disorganized transport units into secure, one-stop facilities. The move is expected to drastically reduce roadside loading and the safety hazards associated with unregulated motor parks.

The Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Professor Dahud Sangodoyin, emphasized that the terminals will not only redefine the city’s skyline but also guarantee the safety of passengers through enhanced security systems and vehicle record-keeping.

The successful completion of the four modern bus terminals underscores the administration’s commitment to delivering on its promise to redefine good governance and create a modern alternative to the state’s existing transportation system.
