Mbah Approves Sweep of Senior Appointments Across Enugu State Parastatals

In a major administrative move aimed at accelerating the state’s development agenda, Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has approved a comprehensive round of appointments into the state executive council and several critical agencies. The sweeping reshuffle includes the nomination of new commissioners, the appointment of board chairmen, and the selection of executive heads for strategic government bodies.

The official announcement was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. According to the dispatch, Governor Mbah has formally nominated Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr. C.O.C. Egumgbe as commissioners designate. Their names have been transmitted to the Enugu State House of Assembly for screening and legislative confirmation.

Governor Mbah has placed a strong emphasis on economic growth and human capital by placing seasoned professionals in key leadership roles. Kenechukwu Nnamani has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, a body central to the administration’s goal of making the state an investment hub. Simultaneously, James Chukwuemeka Mbah has been named the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board to oversee the state’s student support initiatives.

The education sector received further attention with the reconstitution of the Governing Board for the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB). The new board features a diverse lineup including Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr. Mrs. Uche Eze, and Dr. Mrs. Oge Uka. To ensure balanced regional representation, the governor appointed Mrs. Rita Chimaobi Ihemeje to represent Enugu West, Mrs. Justina Ugwu for Enugu North, and Dr. Nnenna Ogbonna for Enugu East. The board also includes Theophilus Nweke representing the Nigeria Union of Teachers and Dr. Luke Ohabuenyi Ezema as Secretary.

The appointments extend into the realms of housing, transportation, and urban planning. Chief Nwabueze Nnamani takes over as the Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, while Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi has been tasked with leading the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority. Furthermore, the transportation sector will see new leadership with Hon. Bob Itanyi serving as Managing Director of the Enugu State Transport Company and Richard Onaga heading the Enugu State Waste Management Agency.

Other notable senior appointments include Dr. Eric Oluedo as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board and Mrs. Sylvia Onwubuemeli as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board. In the area of road infrastructure, Hon. Chika Igwesi will chair the Enugu State Road Maintenance and Development Agency, supported by Hon. Chidera Odo as Chairman of the Enugu State Roads Fund and Barrister Manfred Nzekwe as its Executive Secretary.

According to the statement from the Secretary to the State Government, all appointments, with the exception of the commissioners-designate, take immediate effect. Governor Mbah expressed high expectations for the new appointees, urging them to bring their professional expertise and unwavering commitment to the administration’s vision of sustainable development and effective governance. This latest wave of appointments is widely seen as a strategic step toward fulfilling the governor’s campaign promises and optimizing the performance of state-run institutions.
