Telecommunications provider MTN Nigeria at the weekend extended its nationwide Y’elloTide festive campaign to Kano, surprising dozens of shoppers by paying for items purchased in selected malls across the metropolis.
During the activation exercise, which held at Sufi Mart on Zoo Road and Hadejia Road, as well as Barakat Stores on Lodge Road, not fewer than 40 shoppers received vouchers valued between ₦10,000 and ₦100,000, with MTN footing the bills instantly.
Speaking on the initiative, the Customer Operations Manager for the Northwest Region, Usman Umaru Abdulwahab, said the campaign forms part of MTN’s end-of-year community engagement designed to spread cheer and appreciate customer loyalty.
He said the programme, themed “Vibe with the Y’elloTide”, would run from mid-November to early January with curated engagements, giveaways and random acts of kindness targeting customers across Nigeria.
According to him, the initiative is structured to be inclusive rather than city-centric. “From Lagos to Kano, Abuja to Enugu, the campaign features mall activations, market pop-ups, digital engagements and surprise appearances in everyday locations such as bus parks and weddings,” he said.
Abdulwahab noted that the Kano beneficiaries were randomly selected within the two-hour activation window in each location.
One of the lucky shoppers, Zubaida Rabi’u, said she had been using MTN for over two decades.
“I got a ₦50,000 voucher. I first bought items worth ₦39,200, and after receiving the voucher, I returned and picked more. I appreciate MTN for this,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Lawal Muhammad, said he was unaware of the promo until he was rewarded.
“I spent ₦66,000 and they refunded me with a ₦60,000 voucher. I’ve been using MTN for a long time and this will encourage me to remain with them,” he added.
MTN says the Y’elloTide campaign will continue across Nigeria throughout the festive season with more surprise rewards and community experience events.
