Mulade Urges Grassroots-Focused Execution of Oborevwori’s Projects

By Peter Onyekachukwu

A Delta State-born human and development advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, has called for greater grassroots impact of projects executed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging local government chairmen to ensure that rural communities feel the dividends of democracy.

Mulade, the Ibe-Sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, acknowledged the governor’s strides in urban renewal and road infrastructure across major towns in the state. He described the ongoing projects in city centres as visible signs of progress.

However, he expressed concern that many residents in remote and riverine communities are yet to experience similar development.

According to him, while infrastructural transformation is evident in urban areas, people living in the hinterlands often have to travel long distances before they can see or benefit from such projects.

Speaking from his riverine community, Mulade highlighted the daily realities faced by residents who rely heavily on waterways for transportation and access to basic services. He called for the prioritisation of key projects such as the Ayakoromo Bridge and the proposed Burutu–Forcados–Ogulagha Road.

He noted that linking riverine communities through road and bridge infrastructure would ease movement, stimulate economic activities and improve livelihoods in the affected areas.

“Connecting our communities by road will not only open up economic opportunities but also boost internally generated revenue and restore hope among residents who feel left behind,” he said.

Mulade also challenged the 25 local government council chairmen in the state to initiate meaningful, economy-driven projects within their domains rather than relying solely on the state government.

“Our people at the grassroots want to feel governance in their daily lives. Council chairmen must take bold steps to complement the governor’s efforts and deliver projects that directly touch the lives of the people,” he added.

He maintained that balanced development across urban and rural communities would promote inclusive growth and ensure that no part of Delta State is left behind.
