NAPTIP Reunites Seven Almajiri Trafficking Victims with Families in Kano

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reunited seven almajiri children rescued from human traffickers with their families in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The children, all minors, were handed over to the Kano Zonal Command of NAPTIP after they were intercepted by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) while being transported out of the state.

Speaking on the development, NAPTIP’s Kano Zonal Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Habeeb, said the victims were rescued alongside other children from Jigawa and Katsina states during a joint operation.

Habeeb explained that the children were intercepted while being conveyed to Lokoja, Kogi State, by their teacher, before NSCDC operatives stopped the vehicle for routine checks.

According to him, preliminary interviews conducted by NSCDC personnel revealed that the children were being taken away for exploitative labour, prompting their immediate rescue and transfer to NAPTIP.

He disclosed that the victims were formally received by the Kano Zonal Command on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The children were subsequently sheltered, counseled, and rehabilitated by NAPTIP before being reunited with their families on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Habeeb reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that those involved in human trafficking are brought to justice.
