NCS Board Approves Major Leadership Restructure, Five DCGs, Eight ACGs Confirmed

ABUJA—The Board of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has sanctioned a comprehensive leadership restructure, confirming the appointments of five Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs) and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs).

These crucial approvals were issued during the Board’s 64th Regular Meeting, held on Tuesday. The session was chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, according to an official statement released last night by the Ministry of Finance and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Mohammed Manga.

The Ministry specified that the promotions were executed in strict adherence to the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, while also satisfying the requirements of the Federal Character policy. Furthermore, the exercise included special promotions for ten exemplary officers who received recognition for their exceptional professionalism and significant contributions to national revenue generation and security operations.

The statement emphasized that these reforms represent a core component of the administration’s strategy aimed at modernizing Customs operations, strengthening leadership succession planning, and substantially improving trade facilitation, transparency, and border efficiency.

The government stressed the economic imperative of an efficient Customs Service, noting: “As Nigeria expands non-oil revenue streams and deepens private sector–led growth, a more agile and technology-driven Customs Service is essential to reducing bottlenecks, improving clearance timelines and strengthening competitiveness under the African Continental Trade Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”
