A coalition of traditional rulers, religious figures, and community leaders from the Niger Delta has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his administration’s impact on the region’s development and stability.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the President of the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), His Royal Highness, Chief Benjamin Tamaranebi (Akpolokpolo 1 of Mein Kingdom), emphasized that Tinubu’s leadership has brought significant progress to the Niger Delta. He stated that the president deserves a second term to complete ongoing projects and solidify reforms.
“Our reason is simple: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered,” Tamaranebi said. “He has steadied the ship, empowered local communities, and deserves more time to finish what he started. Politics is about choices, and in 2027, Nigerians must choose between continuity and uncertainty.”
For decades, Niger Delta leaders have criticized the federal government for neglecting the oil-rich region despite its contributions to the nation’s economy. However, the elders believe Tinubu has taken decisive steps to address their long-standing grievances, particularly in infrastructure and economic empowerment.
“In a democracy, no leader is perfect. There will always be challenges, mistakes, and tough decisions. But one thing is clear: Nigeria is better today than it was two years ago. And it will be even better in the years ahead—if we stay the course,” Tamaranebi added.
Beyond their endorsement, the elders also called on President Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. They urged him to facilitate a peaceful resolution among feuding factions to prevent further instability.
“We appeal to Mr. President to prevail on the warring groups in Rivers State to sheathe their swords and embrace peace in the interest of the people,” Tamaranebi said.
The endorsement from Niger Delta elders signals growing support for Tinubu’s administration as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
