DELTA: The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports development by endorsing the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF), a key initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing young athletes in the region.
Chairman of the NSC, Shehu Dikko, will officially declare the festival open, further emphasizing the Commission’s dedication to fostering sports talent nationwide.
The event, scheduled to take place from April 1 to 8 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, will bring together athletes from across the Niger Delta to compete in various disciplines.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, described it as a vital pipeline for sports talent development in Nigeria.
“The Niger Delta Sports Festival is a crucial platform for identifying and grooming future champions. We urge other states to adopt similar initiatives to bolster Nigeria’s sports industry,” Olopade stated.
In a further boost for the festival, organizers have announced PremiumTrust Bank as the official banking partner, underscoring corporate support for grassroots sports initiatives.
With a focus on talent discovery, regional unity, and youth engagement, the NDSF is expected to unearth promising athletes who could represent Nigeria on the global stage in the future.
