Nigerian Navy Vows to Sustain War on Oil Theft, Vandalism in Niger Delta

In a renewed commitment to safeguard Nigeria’s economic lifelines, the Nigerian Navy has pledged to intensify its crackdown on oil theft and pipeline vandalism across the Niger Delta.

Commodore Cajethan Aniaku, Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, made this declaration over the weekend during the force’s Second Quarter Route March held around the Rumuolumeni axis of Rivers State.

He stressed the Navy’s resolve to dominate the waterways, denying criminals any operational freedom. “We are committed and well prepared to dominate our waterways in Rivers State and beyond,” Aniaku stated. “We will sustain our presence both on water and land to combat crude oil theft and economic sabotage.”

The 10-kilometre march, which began at the NNS Pathfinder base and extended through Akar Road in Obio/Akpor LGA, was aimed at enhancing the physical and mental fitness of personnel. It featured collaboration with other security agencies in the state.

Highlighting the importance of the exercise, Commodore Aniaku said it aligns with the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to improve personnel readiness. “This route march is designed to keep us fit, alert, and combat-ready to fulfil our constitutional duties,” he added.

The Navy assured that it will maintain its vigilance across Nigeria’s critical maritime zones to dismantle oil theft networks and restore economic integrity in the region.
