Nigerian Youths to Guard Empowerment Tools, Not Trade Them Security Firm Reassures NCDMB

In a rare show of confidence, a leading security training and empowerment organisation has pledged that no beneficiary of its recent youth programme will sell off their government-sponsored starter packs  a common pitfall in many empowerment schemes across Nigeria.

The assurance came from the vice chairma, Top Private Security Service Nigeria Limited, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd), who also spoke on behalf of Top Private Security Services Nigeria Limited after the successful conclusion of a five-day training and empowerment session held in Warri, Delta State, on Friday, June 13.

Speaking with conviction, Nesiama said, “These ones have been trained in both character and competence. They will not sell their starter packs.”

The training, executed in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), targeted 100 Nigerian youths drawn from different parts of the country. According to Nesiama, the programme began with an introductory module on entrepreneurship, which helped the participants understand the rigour and responsibilities involved in business ownership.

“Most of the feedback we received confirmed that the entrepreneurship module gave them a clearer picture of the journey ahead,” he explained. “They became more passionate about mastering their chosen skills and transforming them into viable businesses.”

To reduce the temptation of trading off the provided tools and equipment, Nesiama said the participants were made to practice with the starter packs during training. “By using them in practical sessions, we’ve lowered their resale value. That alone is enough to discourage resale,” he added.

Monitoring and continuity, he assured, will also be built into the process. “We encouraged them to form active WhatsApp groups where post-training mentoring and peer support will continue. We don’t plan to abandon them after this.”

Nesiama also used the opportunity to advertise the capabilities of Top Private Security’s training facility, describing it as a multi-level institution suitable for strategic, middle, and lower-level training. “We have six training rooms for up to 200 persons, a dining area, library, sickbay, computer labs, safety systems and a fully operational control room,” he noted.

At the closing ceremony, industry experts charged the new graduates to put their tools to productive use, urging them to become job creators and positive change agents in their families and communities.

The NCDMB’s partnership with private players like Top Private Security signals a growing shift in Nigeria’s youth empowerment strategy  one that blends practical training, moral reorientation, and post-programme monitoring to achieve sustainable results.
