NNPC Confirms Explosion and Breach on Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Near Delta Communities

ABUJA, NIGERIANNPC Limited has confirmed a major incident involving an explosion and subsequent breach on its gas infrastructure pipeline near communities in Delta State, leading to a significant pressure drop in the critical Escravos–Lagos Pipeline (ELP) system.

In a press release issued today, NNPC stated that the explosion was reported at approximately 17:50 hours on December 10, 2025, near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

Initial observations gathered by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) indicate a pressure drop that is consistent with a loss of containment on the pipeline.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown, but NNPC assured the public that it will be confirmed following a detailed investigation. The company emphasized that its immediate priority is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment.

NNPC confirmed that emergency response procedures have been activated. The company is working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate the impact of the incident.

NNPC Limited reiterated its commitment to the highest safety and environmental standards, promising that further updates will be provided as more confirmed information becomes available.
